Heat Shrink Tubing

The most common way to hold packs together is to use heat shrink tubing. Heat shrink tubing is usually made of polyvinyl chloride and varies in thickness depending on the battery type and configuration.

Lead wires: To connect the battery pack to the equipment, vinyl-coated wires that meet UL requirements are typically used. Red for positive and black for negative are standard colours.

Thermal/Thermostat Components: Thermal protectors (thermistors) are typically used to prevent overcharging and overheating. These components are connected to the battery via a direct line circuit.

Connectors: The end of the lead wires are usually connected to a connector specified by the customer to meet their requirements for connecting the equipment.

Adhesives: There are several standard adhesives used to connect cells within a battery pack that are industry standard. Some customers specify which adhesive to use, which they feel will improve performance in their particular application.

Nickel Tape: Nickel foil is used to solder the pack dots together. Nickel has a fairly low resistance, but has enough resistivity to spot weld. It is strong, has good corrosion resistance and does not oxidise easily.
